| Pennsylvania began registering
births and deaths on a statewide basis beginning in January of 1906.
Most cities and counties throughout Pennsylvania came into compliance
with this law by 1915. Before this, most counties registered births
and deaths beginining about 1893 and a few counties began even earlier.
Some birth & death records were also kept at the city level
in larger towns. Marriage records can be found at the county level.
Cities and counties began recording marriage records in the 1800s
and most counties were recording marriages by 1885.
